National Skating Month
National Skating Month
US Figure Skating is celebrating 20 Years of National Skating Month and Salt Lake Figure Skating is participating in a coordinated geo-targeted campaign.
We need the clubs help in three ways:
Join us and Good Things Utah will help us kick off the celebration at the Salt Lake Sports Complex on 1/8 at 11:45-12:45. - If any skaters are available to come skate on the freestyle, we would love to see you and have some fun swag to start the celebration. Please sign up by filling out the form below as we do have limited slots available. Look for the Good Things Utah section below. We will also be included in several community calendars and on GTU during Championship Week. As part of their efforts, we have been given a small window of opportunity to reach out to community businesses to help spread the word during the month of January with more specific advertising during the Toyota’s US Figure Skating Championships January 12 – 21, 2021. Individual skaters can help us by submitting selfies as you visit local businesses and also post a picture of you with the US Figure Skating sign I feel…when I skate. We will post these on our instagram and facebook pages and in our virtual event video on January 25, 2021. We will need some skating moments for our virtual event from our current and past skaters. Please coordinate with your coach to record one of your current routines and submit them to the club by January 15, 2021.
National Skating Month began in 2001 as Salt Lake City was preparing to host the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. It is with great honor that we celebrate the continued tradition of National Skating Month here in Utah and for the opportunity Salt Lake Figure Skating has had to host additional national, regional and international competitions each year. We are proud to support Nathan Chen as he goes for his 5 th National Title this month in Las Vegas. Happy Skating Everyone!
President’s Message, January 2021

Here is hoping that 2021 will be a little bit easier on us than 2020. The future is hopeful; a vaccine has been perfected and scheduled to go
out to all those who desire it in between now and July. We are back on the ice but limited as far as how many persons who can be on the ice
at the same time. Hopefully after the first of the year, once we get through Christmas and New Year’s, Covid-19 numbers will mellow
out and the County will allow us to meet in bigger groups at the rink. We are working towards an ice show for this year and reinstating
Club Ice and Jumpstart.
We are also working to get NQS for Skate Salt Lake in July. NQS is set up to have judges critique the skater’s performances at a higher level. If we cannot get NQS we likely will not offer Skate Salt Lake. We must wait to see what US Figure Skating will allow us to do. we are looking forward to seeing how competition season will be shaping up this fall.
[Also, Salt Lake Figure Skating expects that US Figure Skating will bring both the Central Pacific Regionals and the International Classic and Challenge Skate back to Utah in 2021.]
There will also be Adult Skate Camp in Sun Valley sometime in August. We had a good contingency of adult skaters there in 2020 and would like to promote getting more adult skaters involved. I have had the chance to do it two years now, and think it is very much worth doing what it takes to participate.

For your kids who wants to show support for the local sports team U.S. Figure Skating Team swag – $17-$165 Here in Utah, we have various NCAA football teams and the Utah Jazz, but team fandom can be polarizing, so we’re not going to throw our support behind one or another. Instead, we encourage you to cheer on Team USA, every piece of swag you purchase from them goes toward helping athletes achieve their dreams. That means you can say that you helped Nathan Chen or Mariah Bell win their next gold medal in the 2022 Beijing Olympics when you buy your kid that sweet U.S. Figure Skating team jacket or fuzzy fur hat.
